Arranging an assessment

Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring photographs of yourself from five and ten years ago if you have them, and a written note of what you notice and when. Bring any record of previous neck or facial treatment, including non-surgical treatments, because they change the assessment.

What the consultation should establish

Which of the four causes is present and which is dominant; how much of the change is skin, fat, muscle or the chin beneath; what the skin tone and elasticity will allow; and what the plan does about each cause that is found. You should leave able to say which cause was identified and why the proposed operation addresses it rather than another.

Asking about the plan

Ask where the incisions will run and how visible they will be, whether the muscle under the chin will be tightened, whether fat will be removed, whether the face is included, and how long compression must be worn. Ask what would make this the wrong operation for your neck. A surgeon who answers that last question specifically is assessing you rather than presenting to you.

Before you commit

No decision needs to be made at the first appointment. Take the plan away, read it against the guides on this site, and come back with questions. A discount that expires, or pressure to book before an assessment is complete, is information about the clinic rather than about your neck.
